OUR CHURCH
As a community of faith, this church has served as a Methodist presence in this vicinity for nearly 200 years. For the first forty-plus, the local farm families who made up the congregation worshiped on Sunday in the one-room schoolhouse that their children used during the week. But following the Civil War, after a member donated the two acres of property she owned at the corner of Seymour Lake and Sashabaw Roads so that “a proper church” could be built, they stepped out in faith in 1874, to erected the church building that has stood at that intersection as a historical landmark for the past 150 years. With a couple of modifications in the 1950’s (an office was added in the attic, and a basement was dug out from under the church to make room for a kitchen, two bathrooms, and a space for fellowship and Sunday school classrooms) the historic church building continued to serve its rural congregation’s needs for another 50 years.
But as area farms began to make way for suburban subdivisions, church leaders began to anticipate they might soon outgrow that building. So when ten acres of adjacent land went up for sale in the late 1990s , the members stepped out in faith again to purchase that parcel, with plans to construct a multipurpose Worship and Fellowship Center (WFC) behind the church. That building was completed in 2002 and in 2015 a lakefront pavilion was erected on another part of the property. Today our buildings provide space for worship, and many other church events, but they also host various community groups, including two AA groups, a Cub Scout Pack, an office for Samaritan Counseling Center of South Eastern Michigan, Red Cross Blood Drives, and in 2024 we became a polling place for voters in Brandon Township.
OUR MISSION
As a Global Methodist Church, our Mission is “to make disciples of Jesus Christ who worship passionately, love extravagantly, and witness boldly.”
OUR VISION
Our Vision is to be a source of living water to our community, as we join the Holy Spirit in His journey to bring hope, peace, and purpose to our neighbors, through serving their needs and sharing Jesus’ transformational love.
OUR BELIEFS
As Christians, we believe:
- There is only one God and He is the Creator and Sustainer of the universe.
- Yet our one God exists as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
- The Bible is God’s word, written by human authors under the inspiration and guidance of the Holy Spirit, so that we could come to know who God and Jesus are.
- To have a personal relationship with each of us, God (The Father) sent Jesus Christ (His Son) to earth in human form to show us the way to live a sin-free life and to pay the penalty for our sins. His sacrifice made it possible for us to be reconciled to God and have eternal life.
- God’s promise of eternal life is available to everyone who will receive it through faith in Jesus Christ.
- The Holy Spirit is present in the world to make us aware of our need for a Savior, to empower us to live a righteous life as a follower of Jesus, and to help us to experience the hope, love, peace, and joy God wants to bless us with in this life.
